Telemann's string suites contain some of his most delightful music, in the form of wonderfully melodious dance movements following a substantial French overture, whose quick, fugal middle sections never cease to amaze with their freshness and vitality. They are usually not too demanding technically, and may be played by string quartet (though keyboard continuo and violone are recommended); and oboes and bassoon may double the strings even when not specified in the score.
