Overtures (orchestral suites): 1 or more solo oboe(s) + 2 vlns, vla, b.c. or string orchestra

No. 36 is the first edition of a work, recorded presumably from a private manuscript transcription by the Freiburger Barockorchester in 1994, which is one of Telemann's masterpieces. A large-scale French overture, based on antiphonal effects between string and wind choirs, is followed by a long and wonderfully varied sequence of dance movements. No. 38 will be welcomed by oboe d'amore players, whose part avoids virtuoso display and doubles the strings for most of the time.
